Sunday Salon - Half Year Favourites and books to review

Books on the nightstand, a blog/podcast I am loving did a post about half year favourites, so I thought I'd copy and do one here. My favourite books of 2008 so far are:

The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox - Maggie O'Farrel

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Bank - E. Lockhart

The Truth about Forever - Sarah Dessen

The Book Thief - Markus Zusak

The Secret History - Donna Tartt

Mister Pip - Lloyd Jones

Twilight - Stephanie Meyer

If I had to pick my absolutely favourite read this year so far I think it would be a tie between Twilight and Esme Lennox.

What have been your favourite books this year, so far?

I've been away on holidays so I have a pile of books to review so check back in the week. I am also whizzing through Meg Cabot's Mediator series and loving it, it is so fast paced and funny.

Have a great Sunday.

  1. The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson is definately one of my favorites this year. I loved Middlesex and The Kite Runner, too. But of course there are the Janes, Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park. I don't know if I can pick! I'd have to categorize them to pick my favs, and then I'd end up with 20 favorites, out of 41 books read so far. too many book, too little time!

  2. The book Thief is among my top reads of the year as well. I have opposite feelings on the book Twilight though. I list that among the worst books I've read.

  3. koolaidmom - I loved Middlesex too. I liked the first half of The Kite Runner but wasn;t that keen on the second. P&P is one of my favourite books.

Irish - The Book Thief is brilliant isn't it. You didn't like Twilight? I'll have to pop over and see if you say why!

  4. I'm just getting to the halfway mark of The Book Thief and I'm sure this book is going to be one of my top reads for the year.

I also read Breakfast Of Champions for the first time, another of my top reads this year. Cant believe it took me so long to seek out Vonnegut!

  5. I saw this and couldn't resist doing one of my own! I haven't read The Book Thief yet, but I really want to. I loved The Secret History, thought Esme Lennox was okay. I loved Twilight, The Host is on my list!

  6. The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox was also one of my favorites of the year. I think it was really underrated. I also loved The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, both of which I've reviewed on my blog. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield is also in my top five for the year so far, as is Love in the Time of Cholera.

I didn't much care for the Twilight series, though.

  7. Readerville - Me too, I thought Esme was such a brilliant engaging character.

I didn't like the thirteenth tale at all. I'll have to check out your reviews.
